World Water Day

POSTED 10/04/2016 - By RW

International World Water Day started in 1993 by the UN is held annually on 22nd March as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and for promoting the sustainable management of freshwater resources. World Water Day is an international day and is seen as an opportunity to learn more about water related issues, be inspired to tell others and take action to make a difference. That’s why its so important to us here at Angel.

We work with a number of humanitarian charities including WaterAid for who this day is a chance to communicate further the important work that they do. This year Wateraid have asked people around the globe to help turn the world blue for a day. They want to raise awareness about the water crisis, and make sure everyone has access to clean, safe water by 2030.

Well that was a challenge our fundraising teams couldn’t resist!! Today for one day only we turned BLUE!! There has been a fun filled atmosphere throughout the day at both our Par and Plymouth centers and just a little bit of blue competition with some great blue effort being made.  It really is a great chance to have a little fun without anyone loosing site of the importance of the message. We work hard fundraising every day on behalf of Wateraid and to know we were part of World Water Day and to have taken part in Blue4Water reminds us all why we do this job!

Watch this great video of our colleagues at WaterAid calling supporters on World Water Day to say thank you and find out more about World Water day here.

Guide Dog Polly Visits Angel

POSTED 07/03/2016 - By BW

Guide Dogs is one of the national charities that we proudly fundraise on behalf of and having the opportunity to have first hand connections with ambassadors for our charity clients is very important for our fundraising teams. It gives them the opportunity to hear first hand the real difference they make every day in the job they do and why the fundraising they do on behalf of Guide Dogs is so important.
On Thursday we were very lucky to host a visit to our Par site from a very incredible lady Sue Harold and her Guide Dog Polly.
Dogs may be a man's best friend but for those without sight, a guide dog is a treasured lifeline. Sue who was registered blind in 1999, and her nine-year-old golden Labrador retriever Polly are inseparable. Sue has had three guide dogs since she was registered blind and despite all three having completely different personalities, they all shared the key qualities required for a dependable guide dog.
"I was born with bad eyes," Sue tells the team "I had my first pair of glasses when I was a very young child and my first operation when I was four, my eyesight got worse as I got older and I hid it for a very long time. I didn't want anybody to know."
Sue recalls the day she was told she was blind, she told us: "It was one of the most difficult days of my life. Somebody had said you can't see and I couldn't go on pretending, I went home and I sat down and cried and cried. I just sat there and wouldn't get up”
With help from a local support group where she lives Sue explained how slowly she began to adjust to life without her sight and the following year she was given her first guide dog, which transformed her life.
"It was wonderful when they said I could have my first guide dog I nearly collapsed to the floor, I had my independence back, I could go out walking on my own, I could go into town on the bus with my dog.
Not only did the Sue bring to life her own story during the session the fundraisers also experienced through the use of vision altering glasses, some of the challenges that individuals with sight problems face every day. This understanding of the challenges of daily life help and inspire the team in the fundraising that they do.
We can’t thank Sue and Polly enough for taking the time to visit us, they are both an inspiration!

Angel Expands its IT and Development Team

POSTED 16/02/2016 - By RW

Angel has always taken great pride in the fact that our systems are built and maintained in house, no off the shelf package for us! This gives us and our clients a massive amount of flexibility in what we can do and keeps us at the forefront of innovation and development. We have invested heavily in those systems and its only logical for us to invest in the team. As a company that always looks to develop existing staff where we can, we are delighted to have discovered a talent amongst us and are thrilled to welcome Martin Bullock into his new role in the IT team.

Angel Expands into Plymouth

POSTED 16/02/2016 - By RW

Angel looks to continual develop its offering in terms of excellence in fundraising and the services we deliver and so expanding into a second site was part of our strategic plan to maintain that.

The second site has allowed us to not only grow physically but also to grow our team of specialist fundraisers and focus on what we love to do!

Another advantage of moving into Plymouth, a University city, is the fact that there is lots of enthusiastic, focused students that add another dimension to our teams, along with our more seasoned fundraisers.

"This expansion allows us to continue to deliver excellent fundraising" Martin Cundy, Operations Manager.

Top 50

POSTED 16/02/2016 - By RW

We are delighted to announce that we have been placed in the Top 50 list 2015 for Customer Service delivery in partnership with WWF.

2015 saw Angel in partnership with our client WWf entering into the Top 50 companies for customer service. The Top 50 gives organisations a true outside in perspective of their contact centre performance against the very best in the UK. This year there were over 300 entrants competing for a place in the Top 50 including companies such as The Met Office, Tesco and Aviva. The process involves a minimum of 125 mystery shop interactions carried out over a 3 month period measuring all aspects of customer service delivery across both WWF and Angel.

We were over the moon and so proud when we were contacted to say we had placed in the Top 50 of all those organisations, a massive achievement in itself but it didn't stop there. We were invited to attend a very glitzy award ceremony at Old Trafford to celevrate but also to find out exactly where we had ranked. It was a fantastic evening and as a reward for all the hard work, they had put in the best performing agent from our WWF team, a lead member of our call quality team and our operations manager all put on their best glad rags and went to celebrate. The event was great fun and we were delighted to find that we had ranked 9th for telephone response in our category, a fantastic ranking to benchmark against some of the best in the industry.

Managing Director Darren Juleff says “I am delighted with the hard work and standard of service that Angel provides and this award recognises that."

Sams Centrepoint Cycle Ride

POSTED 29/05/2013 - By Huw

As a fundraising agency, we are used to seeing the amazing things that people do on a daily basis to help those in need, however that doesn’t mean we’re not still blown away each time someone wants to do their bit.

Recently one of our outbound telephone fundraisers working on a Centrepoint campaign came to us to say exactly that. After working on the Centrepoint calling, and developing a real passion for their cause, Sam wanted to see if he could do his part too.

As a keen cyclist and in the true Angel spirit of not doing anything by halves, Sam has decided on doing the ultimate UK cycle challenge; Land’s End to John o’ Groats. That’s 900 miles, 3 countries, 2 weeks all to raise funds for the amazing work done by Centrepoint!!

Seeing as Sam will be doing the leg work, we thought the least we could do was to send out a quick note to our clients, suppliers, partners and friends within the industry asking them to drop a couple of quid into the kitty!

So please, a quick donation to give Sam a little bit of a push on his way would be very much appreciated!

You can either donate directly to his Just Giving page here:

Or text SAMB92 followed by £1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10 to 70070

Many thanks!

A Reflection on our 2012

POSTED 20/12/2012 - By Huw

And so just like that, 2012 is closing to an end already, and what a year it’s been!

Since we began our work with Charities over 6 years ago, we have worked hard to grow year on year, and move from strength to strength; and we are very happy to say that this year has not been an exception.

We’ve been very happy to see a record number of charities move to appoint us to handle calls for their campaigns, and been even happier to hear their joy on the results we have delivered. From animal charities to humanitarian, and from medical charities to children’s, our client base has grown, and our Angels have been rising to the task of surpassing everyone’s expectations. But as always, as we move into new areas of fundraising, we have been constantly bowled over by the generosity of the general public in helping support the vital work of these organisations.

For us, one of the many highlights of the year included exhibiting at the IOF National Convention for the first time ever. It was brilliant to be amongst such a buzzing and knowledgeable crowd, all making the most of the valuable information that was on hand, and working pro-actively to push fundraising to that next level. It was fantastic to see so many familiar faces, meet lots of new ones, and also go a little bit crazy with our cup-cakes, and generally spread a little bit of the Angel spirit!

Some further news that we would like to share with you is on some of our internal changes here at Angel. As part of our continual development as a company and as part of our constant strive to deliver the best to our clients we have recently merged two departments.

Rebecca Wilton is now managing both the Business Development and Client Executive Team.

Huw Bradley is continuing his excellent work in the development of our relationships in the charity sector.

The Client Executive team, with Ben Vian in the role of Senior Client Executive with his wealth of knowledge and experience, continue to deliver our strong account management.

Amongst these further changes we have in the last few months employed two new Client Executives to extend the team alongside our growth, and we’re sure you will look forward to meeting them soon if you haven’t already done so.

Early in the year we also welcomed to Angel Jennie Boulton, who has played a significant role as our training and development Manager. She has worked to implement a number of training modules for our phone angels in customer care, sales, and delivering charity focussed passion when handling calls.

Jennie has also worked on developing relationships with local colleges to provide agents with the opportunity to complete NVQs in a number of skills that have all contributed to our improving results throughout the year.

Several of our more experienced agents have also been promoted to duty manager positions. As well as knowing our clients inside out, they work under the leadership of Martin Cundy our operations manager, to deliver perfect calls and help develop the skills and knowledge base of new agents.

Looking into 2013, already we can see many exciting things coming up.

From DRTV to train panels, and from outbound upgrades to mobile regular giving, as usual, January looks to be an exciting and busy period.

From 1st of January right through to the spring, we are thrilled once again to have a diverse line-up of new and exciting clients that we will be working with for the first time.

As well as looking to build on our learnings from this year and expand throughout 2013, we of course will continue providing a proactive and professional level of service to all our clients.

RSPB - Stepping Up For Nature

POSTED 15/10/2012 - By Huw

RSPB stepping up logo

Our fundraisers here at Angel all enjoyed the fantastic response coming from the latest instalment of the RSPB’s ‘Stepping Up For Nature’ campaign.
“Nature is in trouble – so millions of people are stepping up to help. Our wildlife has been disappearing at an alarming rate. But small steps make a big difference. If we all act together and get stuck in, we can save our wildlife.”

One of these small steps includes helping the birds in your own garden, and so as part of the campaign, on-going DRTV adverts are urging viewers to call for a free booklet on how to do this.

So far the response has been great, and with this short RSPB video below, it’s not hard to see why…

Four Paws

POSTED 17/08/2012 - By Huw

One of the most recent charities to come to Angel for a response handling agency is 'Four Paws.'

For almost two decades, the charity has consistently and successfully focused on one goal: to help animals - abused due to economic, scientific or other reasons - to their rights.

The vision of Four Paws is a world without animal suffering. The charity views themselves as the advocate and champion of those who have no voice of their own, namely animals.

This month Four Paws launched it’s new video clip “HOPE is…”. The main objective is not only to position FOUR PAWS as a charity that brings hope for animals in need, but also to highlight the commitment of a team engaged in one of the largest animal welfare initiatives ever undertaken.

The viral clip has been produced pro bono by the South African creative agency Witch Wizard. Four Paws now hope to get further support from online partners and media in placing and sharing the viral clip in order to raise awareness for animals in need, and so by posting it here, we're doing our own little part.

Please watch and share the clip below...

Advantage Africa

POSTED 15/08/2012 - By Huw

One of the most exciting moments at the 2012 Institute of Fundraising National Convention was the Dragon’s Den event. Fundraisers pitched their ideas for a chance to receive £5000 backing at the discretion of three Judges.

One of the two final winners was Advantage Africa who scooped the cash for their Plate Project- which is based in the small village of Obambo in Western Kenya. By using a Facebook app, users can design a plate and then add a donation to put food on it. For donations of more than £40, Advantage Africa will make the plate designed and then send it out to Obambo for real.

Andrew Betts, Director of Advantage Africa said: "We are so delighted and grateful to have secured funding as well as the promise of mentoring support from the Dragons.  The Plate Project will help provide a nutritious meal for over 100 orphaned and vulnerable children each lunchtime in Obambo, Kenya.  It may be their only meal of the day."

Simon Moirrison - Director of Policy and Communication's at the Institute of Fundraising said: "These worthy winners made excellent presentations and really fired up our judges' imagination with their passion and commitment to their causes.

Here at Angel we were also so impressed by the Advantage Africa pitch that we decided to donate our SMS and donor conversion services to the project free of charge.

Darren Juleff, Managing Director, of Angel Charity Services, said: "We are delighted to be supporting such an exciting start up charity; this campaign is going to make such a difference on a daily basis to the children of Obambo and with Angel’s skills & experience we can hopefully make this campaign a real success."

The Plate project app will exist on Facebook but is currently under development and is due to be launched in September 2012. You can watch a short video about the plate project here:

Angel are attending the IoF National Convention!

POSTED 27/06/2012 - By Huw

For the first time ever Angel will be exhibiting at the Institute of Fundraising National Convention – and we’re very excited!

Being Europe’s biggest fundraising event, the buzz around the convention is fantastic, and as such we’re looking forward to networking, hearing some speakers, attending some sessions and even joining in with the twitter party!

We’ve been looking through the photos of last year (rather enviously) and working with all hands on deck to put together a fun stand with lots of exciting goodies – and so please do drop by!

Beckie and I from the business development team will be on stand 17 for all three days, along with our Managing Director Darren in order to meet lots of folk and answer any telephone fundraising questions you may have.

Whether you’re an old friend, or we’ve not met before, we’d love to say HI.

If you’ve not heard about the National Convention before, or would like to find out more, then all you need can be found here:

Our 5th Kiva Loan

POSTED 02/05/2012 - By Huw

As we've posted before, we're great fans of Kiva as a giving platform here at Angel, and we're very happy to have made our 5th loan. This time we've chosen to help Zeid in Iraq reach his target of $3000 in order to buy an air conditioner and showcases for his fabrics shop

Zeid is a youth client of Kiva, aged 26 years old, single, and lives with nine family members, of whom seven brothers work.

He has owned his shop since 2011, selling a selection of clothing fabrics and sewing accessories. He has sufficient experience in this field, a deep understanding of local customers, and knows about their needs. He has a good reputation and he is becoming well known in the surrounding areas.

Zeid has now met his target, and we're excited to see how he does!

Below you can see how great Kiva is on providing you backend statistics on where your loans have gone to help. It's touches like this that we feel really add to the supporter experience and add so much value to the platform. Of course you can also see where our loans from us here at Angel have gone so far!

Angel colours with Unicef!

We've been meaning to do this for a little while and now we have! Unicef has been running a fantastic online campaign called 'Own a colour.' Donors are able to choose from over 16 million unique colors and then purchase them for as little as £1 - with all of the money going directly to Unicef to help change children's lives.

The idea is incredibly simple, yet wonderfully innovative at the same time, you can see the steps here...

By using the colour selector we found our exact brand green and managed to snap it up before anyone else did!

Supporting through Kiva

At Angel we are always interested in innovative ways to make a difference, and that’s why we love Kiva. Kiva’s platform enables users to loan amounts as small as $25 directly to those who need it most. Their website allows users to choose see and track the progress of the exact individual that’s benefiting from your loan.

We are currently supporting John below:

Kiva John

John is 30 years old from Ndunyu Njeru in Kenya and is a single man.

John has a motorcycle transport business that he runs and has applied for a loan from KADET LTD, to enable him be able to cater for the service charges of his bike.

He is optimistic that the motorbike will function well and enable him to carry his customers with ease. He hopes to expand his business and buy mini- buses.

Angel and a New Year!

POSTED 02/02/2012 - By Huw

Christmas and the New Year period are always huge highlights of the calendar here at Angel; and this season was no exception!

Late 2011 saw many fantastic new clients arrive with us including Sense, VSO and The Donkey Sanctuary – all of whom were excited and confident in using Angel’s charity call handling expertise and our wealth of experience to assist them in successful DRTV campaigns.

For the third consecutive year we also handled calls for the massive Salvation Army Christmas appeal which once again performed excellently and resulted in Angel taking millions of pounds worth of donations – all going to a great cause.

We recently expanded our premises by opening a brand new 30 seat call area – separated from our main call centre. The space really came into its intended use over the festive period when it allowed us to physically separate smaller and newly starting campaigns away from those with large volumes. The separation shows Angel’s commitment to apply the care and attention to detail that is crucial to all campaigns regardless of size.

So far we’ve been off to a flying start in 2012 after winning a pitch process and being selected by The RNIB to handle responses for their upcoming DRTV campaign due to start in February.

We are extremely excited to progress into the New Year with the same momentum and continued development that we have enjoyed throughout 2011.

We’ll be working on some case studies in the coming weeks for some of our recent Christmas campaigns, so be sure to check back soon to see some stats from behind the scenes here at Angel!

Angel to handle Barnardo’s DRTV Campaign

POSTED 17/10/2011 - By Huw

The run up to Christmas is always an exciting one here at Angel, with many of our clients running campaigns over the festive period. This year is no different, and after a fantastic 2011 so far, our experience and reputation for excellence has continued to grow – as has the number of charities we work with.

We are extremely proud to say that we have just begun work with Barnardo’s – the latest charity to appoint Angel to handle calls in response to a DRTV campaign. In what will be the charity's first use of DRTV since 2006, Barnardo’s sought an agency capable of handling their inbound and outbound calls. We were chosen after displaying our proven experience and proactive input into making the most of every call.

Barnardo’s vision today is that the lives of all children and young people should be free from poverty, abuse and discrimination. Specifically, we will be working on their most recent campaign entitled ‘Cut them free’ which is a drive to cut children free from sexual exploitation.

Following television adverts, callers will be responding to place one off donations and regular monthly gifts as well as to claim two free ‘be safe’ booklets. The publications are to advise parents, children and young people and professionals who work with children how to spot the signs of child sexual exploitation and what to do about it.

Our unique mix of fundraisers, particularly those who are parents themselves, have been moved by the fantastic work that Barnardo’s does and as a result are keen to share their enthusiasm for the charity with every caller.

We are proud to say that as our client base has continued to grow there has been no detrimental impact on the quality of our service or the levels of results we are able to produce. This is down to a number of factors including in-depth planning and organisation, fantastic relationships with media planners and consultants, a close working relationship with SMS providers and also a growth in our physical space and employees.

We are delighted to be working with Barnardo’s and are excited to be a part of such an important fundraising cause.

You can read more about the ‘Cut them free’ appeal here:

Angel to manage Red Cross emergency appeal

POSTED 09/08/2011 - By Huw

We are very happy to announce that Angel will be working with the Red Cross, managing calls for an emergency appeal to provide relief for the East African famine.

The charity were able to take advantage of our expertise at quickly and effectively setting up solutions for call handling on short notice – allowing them to react swiftly to aid the unfortunate circumstances in the Horn of Africa.

The campaign will be made up of radio adverts calling for donations across multiple channels and are due to kick off later this week. Owing to the sensitive nature of the campaign, it was crucial for calls to be answered live and for donors to be able to speak to experienced and dedicated fundraisers; by choosing Angel the Red Cross know that they are in capable hands.

Angel to handle Oxfam emergency response line

POSTED 26/07/2011 - By Huw

Angel is excited to be involved with Oxfam’s emergency appeal to provide relief to parts of East Africa where more than 10 million people are facing desperate food shortages.

We are pleased to have worked closely with the charity to quickly set up an emergency response line to handle calls and donations coming in from a new DRTV appeal that will help provide urgent support to save lives. Donations in response to this campaign will go specifically to help provide food and clean water in parts of East Africa suffering from the worst drought in 60 years.

Our dedicated call centre staff are enthused to use their previous experience in charity campaigns to help increase donations to aid this critical situation.
